HIV Antibody/Antigen
Why it matters: A positive result means HIV could be present, and a blood test at a clinic is used to check; if that second test is also positive, referral to an HIV clinic follows. A negative result means the test found no signs of HIV infection. A further test some weeks later may be advised after a possible recent exposure.
