Immature Granulocytes
Immature granulocytes are young neutrophils and other granulocyte cells released from the bone marrow before they have fully matured. A small number circulating in the blood is normal; the count rises when the marrow is producing white cells more quickly than usual.
Why it matters: A higher number of immature granulocytes is commonly seen alongside infection or inflammation, when the bone marrow speeds up white-cell production. The count is typically very low or near zero in healthy samples, so it is usually read together with the overall white blood cell count and differential.
